Jen Grubb Named BIG EAST Defensive Player Of The Week

Sept. 27, 1999

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Notre Dame senior All-American women’s soccer captain Jen Grubb has been named BIG EAST Conference defensive player of the week after scoring twice in Notre Dame’s wins at Seton Hall and Rutgers this past weekend. The 1998 BIG EAST defensive player of the year and 1999 BIG EAST preseason defensive player of the year converted a pair of free kicks for goals in the 4-2 win at Seton Hall and the 4-0 win at Rutgers.

Against Rutgers, Grubb, currently fourth on the team in scoring with three goals and two assists for eight points, helped the defense in holding the Scarlet Knights to four shots without a shot on goal. The defensive-player-of-the-week honor is the second for the Irish in 1999 after Kara Brown earned the award on Sept. 13. This marks the sixth time in her career that Grubb has been named BIG EAST defensive player of the week after three selections in 1998 and two in 1997.

Grubb helped the 6-2-0 and sixth-ranked Irish open with a 2-0-0 record this past weekend against BIG EAST Conference Mid-Atlantic division opponents. Notre Dame returns home from a four-game road trip for a pair of Mid-Atlantic division games this weekend against Georgetown and Villanova.
