Jarrah Myers Named BIG EAST Player of the Week

April 16, 2001

Jarrah Myers (Carbondale, Kan.), a junior catcher on the University of Notre Dame softball team, was named the BIG EAST Player of the Week by the conference office on Monday.

Myers batted .455 in four games last week, leading Notre Dame to a 4-0 record on the week with doubleheader sweeps of Loyola (Chicago) and BIG EAST Conference opponent Pittsburgh. Myers also helped guide the Notre Dame pitching staff through four more shut-out victories, as the Irish now have thrown a school-record eight consecutive shutouts.

Against Loyola, she had a two-for-four performance in the first game with an RBI, a run scored and a stolen base. In the second game, she went one-for-three with her fifth home run of the season, a two-run shot in the fifth inning. Taking on Pittsburgh over the weekend, Myers went two-for-four in the doubleheader, including a triple in the first game.

In the most recent BIG EAST statistical rankings (April 16), Myers stands first in on-base percentage (.473), second in runs scored (30) and RBI (29), third in walks (17), total bases (73) and slugging percentage (.652) and fifth in batting average (.384) and triples (three).

She is the third Irish player to earn the weekly award this season (Jenny Kriech, Feb. 26, and Andrea Loman, March 19), while senior pitcher Jen Sharron has been named BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week three times this season.

Notre Dame is currently 36-3, 10-0 in the BIG EAST Conference and ranked 11th in the nation. The Irish will travel to Chicago, Ill., on Thursday, April 19, for a non-conference show down with #8 DePaul.
