Third Irish player to qualify this summer

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Irish summer surge continued this past week with incoming freshman Palmer Jackson qualifying for the U.S. Amateur. The Murrysville, Pennsylvania native becomes the third Notre Dame men’s golfer to qualify for the event, joining Hunter Ostrom and Davis Chatfield.

Jackson took medalist honors at Quicksilver Golf Club in Midway, Pennsylvania over July 22-23. Jackson shot a 71 in round one before firing off a tournament low round of 67 on day two. His 138 (-6) total defeated the next best golfer by two strokes.

Jackson’s summer also included a Round of 16 run at the U.S. Junior Amateur. Furthermore, this will mark his second stint at the U.S. Amateur after playing in last year’s event at Pebble Beach.

The 119th U.S. Amateur will take place from Aug. 12-18 at Pinehurst Resort & Country Club.
