Jack Cooley Named To BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll For The Fourth Time This Season

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Irish forward Jack Cooley (Glenview, Ill.) has been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for the fourth time this season and the third time in five weeks.

Cooley, who is averaging 10.7 points and 8.4 rebounds for the Irish this season, netted 13.9 points and 9.5 rebounds while shooting 69.4 percent from the field in Notre Dame’s two games last week. Cooley was instrumental in the Irish’s upset of top-ranked and previously undefeated Syracuse, 67-58, as he registered his fifth double-double of the season as he finished with game-highs of 17 points and 10 rebounds.

Villanova made a sweep of the BIG EAST awards as Maalik Wayns copped player-of-the-week honors while JayVaughn Pinkston was honored as the league’s rookie of the week.

Cooley was joined on the Honor Roll by four other players – Jason Clark of Georgetown, Jae Crowder of Marquette, Jawanza Poland of USF and Kevin Jones of West Virginia.

In BIG EAST play, Cooley leads the Irish in both scoring and rebounding as he is averaging 12.9 points and 9.6 rebounds, respectively. Cooley has registered five double-doubles this season, netted double figures in 13 contests, and grabbed 10-plus rebounds in seven contests.

He scored a career-high 22 points in back-to-back games against Maine and Dartmouth this season and hauled in a career-high 17 rebounds against Delaware State in the fourth game of the year.

Cooley and his Irish teammates (12-8, 4-3) return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 25 when they travel to Seton Hall for the first of two consecutive road games.
