NOTRE DAME, Ind. – For the second time this season, Irish senior forward Jack Cooley (Glenview, Ill.) has been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll. Cooley averaged 17.3 points and 12.0 rebounds in leading Notre Dame to a 3-0 week as the 22nd-ranked Irish improved to 12-1 on the season.

Victor Rudd of South Florida was honored as the BIG EAST Player of the Week, while Omar Calhoun of Connecticut took the league’s rookie-of-the-week honors.

Sean Kilpatrick of Cincinnati, Ryan Boatwright of Connecticut, Otto Porter of Georgetown and Bryce Cotton of Providence joined Cooley on the Weekly Honor Roll.

Cooley, who leads the Irish in both scoring and rebounding with career bests of 15.2 points and 11.3 rebounds, shot 79.2 percent (19-24) from the field and 82.2 percent (14-17) from the free throw line in the three contests and recorded double-doubles in two of the three games. He leads the team in doubles-doubles with nine and ranks second in that category nationally. Cooley also tops the team with 22 blocked shots and is second on the team in field goal percentage at 64.0 percent (73-114).

Cooley started off his week by netting 14 points and grabbing eight rebounds in Notre Dame’s 74-62 win over IPFW as he connected on five-of-six shots from the field. He followed that game up by scoring 14 points and hauling in 11 rebounds against Kennesaw State as he again hit on five of his six field goal attempts and converted all four of his attempts from the free-throw line. In the 22-point victory (89-67) over Niagara, Cooley produced season-highs in both scoring and rebounding with 24 points and 15 rebounds. He also matched his season high with three assists, in addition to blocking two shots in just 25 minutes of action. Cooley converted on nine-of-12 shots from the field and hit on all six of his free throw attempts, extending that streak to 10 straight.

Notre Dame returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013 when it opens up BIG EAST play at home against Seton Hall. Tipoff for the contest will be at noon.
