Jack Cooley Named To BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll

Dec. 26, 2011

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – For the second time this season, Irish forward Jack Cooley (Glenview, Ill.) has been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll. Cooley, who also was honored with the same accolade two weeks ago on Dec. 12, earns the award after scoring 19 points and grabbing eight rebounds in last week 41-point victory (106-65) against Sacred Heart on Dec. 19.

Kevin Jones of West Virginia was selected as the BIG EAST Player of the Week, while Andre Drummond of Connecticut was named the BIG EAST Rookie of the Week. Joining Cooley on the league’s Honor Roll were Shabazz Napier (Connecticut), Kyle Kuric (Louisville), Vincent Council (Providence) and Jordan Theodore (Seton Hall).

The 6-9, 248-pound junior, connected on all seven of his field goal attempts and was five-of-six from the free-throw line. In addition, he blocked three shots in the contest.

Cooley, who missed the Maryland game in early December due to illness, is averaging bests of 9.5 points and leads the team with 7.7 rebounding average. He also tops the Irish with 16 blocks. Cooley has earned 10 starts in the 12 games he has played and recorded two double-doubles. His current four-game double-figure scoring streak is the longest of his career and he has netted double figures in five games overall. Cooley has grabbed 10-plus rebounds in three games overall, including a career-high 17 boards against Delaware State on Nov. 18.

Notre Dame opens BIG EAST play on Tuesday, Dec. 27 when the Irish entertain Pittsburgh at 7:00 p.m. on ESPN2.
