Jack Cooley Cops Third BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll Accolade Of Season

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Irish forward Jack Cooley (Glenview, Ill.) has been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for the third time this season after guiding the Irish to a 1-1 week in conference play last week that included a 67-65 double-overtime victory at Louisville on Saturday, Jan. 10. It marks second time in three weeks that Cooley has been selected to the weekly honor roll and third straight week that a Notre Dame player has garnered honor roll accolades.

Cooley averaged 16.5 points and 10.5 rebounds in the Irish’s two games last week on the road versus Cincinnati and the Cardinals. He registered double-doubles in each of the two contests marking the first time in his career that achieved the fete in back-to-back contests.

Darryl Bryant of West Virgina was named to league’s player of the week, while D’Angelo Harrison of St. John’s was honored as the conference’s rookie of the week. Also included with Cooley on the Honor Roll were Brandon Young of DePaul, Eli Carter of Rutgers, Jordan Theodore from Seton Hall and Brandon Triche of Syracuse.

Cooley currently stands fourth on the team in scoring (third among active players) with a 10.3 scoring average and leads the in rebounding at 8.5 rebounds per game. Both are career bests for the Notre Dame junior.

In the loss at Cincinnati, Cooley recorded his third double-double of the season as he netted 15 points and grabbed 11 rebounds while hitting seven-of-12 shots from the field. In the memorable double-overtime victory at 10th-ranked Louisville, Cooley finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds. It marked the sixth time in seven games that he netted double figures and eighth time overall this season and the third straight game (sixth overall) that he grabbed 10 or more rebounds in a game.

Cooley and his Irish teammates (10-6, 2-1) return to action on Tuesday night, Jan. 10 when they put their 28-game home win streak on the line against USF. Game time is 7:00 p.m. (ET).
