PHILADELPHIA – Former University of Notre Dame defensive lineman Isaac Rochell was selected by the Los Angeles Chargers with the seventh pick in the seventh round (225th overall) of the 2017 NFL Draft Saturday afternoon in front of the Philadelphia Museum of Art at Eakins Oval.
Rochell, a 2016 captain at Notre Dame, saw action in 49 games and started 38 in a Notre Dame uniform. He finished his Irish career with 22.0 tackles for loss and four and a half sacks. Rochell registered 167 tackles, including 83 solo stops, as well as six passes defended, one fumble recovery, one blocked kick and 27 quarterback hurries.
The 2016 Notre Dame Lineman of the Year, Rochell started all 12 contests this past season and recorded 55 tackles, seven for loss and one sack.
Rochelle is the 15th player from Notre Dame ever selected by the Chargers. Chris Watt was the last Irish player drafted by the franchise in 2013 (third round).
