NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Notre Dame men’s golf team shot a final-round 307 to finish in 15th place at the Inverness Intercollegiate Invitational Saturday afternoon at the famed Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio. The Irish posted a three-round score of 934 (310-317-307) and wound up 48 shots behind the tournament winner, UCLA.
Sophomore Scott Gustafson (Rochester, Minn./Eden Prairie HS) was the top individual finisher for Notre Dame, tying for 46th place with a 54-hole score of 232 (77-73-82). Freshman walk-on Adam Gifford completed a solid opening weekend with a 49th-place showing at 234 (76-82-76), while fellow rookie Shane Sigsbee (McKinney, Texas/McKinney HS) carded the low round for the Irish on Saturday with a 75 to place 58th overall at 236 (80-81-75). Sophomore Dan Klauer (Granger, Ind./Mishawaka Marian HS) rounded out the Notre Dame lineup, finishing 63rd overall with a 239 score (77-81-81). Freshman Cole Isban (South Bend, Ind./Mishawaka Marian HS) also made the trip for the Irish, but was disqualified after the second round for submitting an incorrect scorecard.
Notre Dame will have the next two weeks off before it returns to the links Oct. 6-7 in Chicago for the Windon Memorial Classic, hosted by Northwestern.
