The University of Notre Dame rowing team wrapped up a solid weekend of racing at the 2017 NCAA Championship regatta on Lake Mercer in West Windsor, New Jersey, on Sunday morning. Returning to the championship regatta for the fifth time in six seasons, all three Irish boats (Varsity Eight, Second Varsity Eight, Varsity Four) competed in the C Final on the final day of racing with the ability to finish as high as 13th in the final boat standings.
The Varsity Four began the day with a fourth-place finish and earning 16th overall in 7:38.465. The Second Varsity Eight followed with a fifth-place finishin and 17th overall in 6:55.689. Notre Dame ended up 16th in the final team standings.
The Varsity Eight faced a familiar foe in a battle for third place in the C Final. The Irish had edged Syracuse in the ACC Championship Grand Final, a key victory at the end of the season that helped Notre Dame earn a berth in the NCAA Championship. The Orange just edged the Irish in the NCAA C Final on Sunday taking third place in 6:39.784 – just ahead of Notre Dame at 6:39.995. The Varsity Eight finished 16th overall in the final boat results.
