Irish Wrap Up Music City Invitational

NASHVILLE, Tennessee – The Notre Dame track and field team traveled to the Music City Invitational to compete on Friday February 11 and Saturday February 12.

The Irish competed in several different events that resulted in the Irish placing in the top ten. In the women’s high jump, Madison Schmidt hit a mark of 1.70 meters while teammate Jadin O’Brien hit 1.68 meters. Sarah Flight was also in the competition with a mark of 1.68m.

Michael Shoaf took fifth place in the men’s weight throw. He threw for a mark of 19.96 meters. He also took eighth place in the shot put with a toss of 18.48 meters. John Stefan took eleventh place in the shot put with a mark of 17.61 meters.

Rachel Tanczos took fifth in the weight throw and the shot put with a mark of 22.73 meters and 15.31 meters, respectively.

The men’s 400 meter saw action from three Irish teammates when Luis Cossio, Matthew Cornelius, and Luke Phillips took 11th, 12th, and 13th, respectively. Cossio crossed the finish line with a time of 50.19, Cornelius with a time of 50.24 and Phillips with a time of 50.54.

Nolan Blachowski took eleventh in the men’s pole vault when he hit a mark of 4.77m. Alaina Brady also took eleventh in the long jump with a mark of 5.67m.

Notre Dame continues competition next week when they host the Alex Wilson Invitational at the Loftus Sports Center.
