NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Six home events and road dual meets against perennial powers Auburn and Indiana highlight the 2012-13 Notre Dame women’s swimming and diving schedule released on Monday by head coach Brian Barnes.

“It’s a very busy and challenging schedule for us,” said Barnes. “We have determined that competing regularly really helps us perform better at the big meets. We are going to see some incredibly tough competition throughout the season, especially at Auburn and with the Kansas Women’s Classic and the Ohio State December Invitational. We look forward to using last season and the Olympic Trials as a building block to accomplish our goals this year.”

The Irish, who are coming off a 22nd place finish at the 2012 NCAA Championships, open the season with the 48th annual Dennis Stark Relays on Friday, Oct. 12 at Rolfs Aquatic Center. The relays are named for former legendary Irish men’s and women’s head coach Dennis Stark. Formerly the Notre Dame Relays, the meet was officially renamed the Dennis Stark Relays in 2003.

After a trip to Auburn, Ala., on Oct. 26 for a dual meet with the Tigers, who finished tied for seventh at this past season’s NCAA Championships, the Irish return home for a trio of dual meets. On Nov. 2, the Irish welcome Purdue to Rolfs for a 5 p.m. dual meet. The next week Notre Dame plays host to a pair of BIG EAST dual meets as Pittsburgh (Nov. 9) and Louisville (Nov. 10) invade Rolfs.

Following the clash with the Cardinals, Notre Dame travels to two elite multi-team meets in the Kansas Women’s Classic from Nov. 16-18, and the Ohio State December Invitational from Nov. 30-Dec. 2. In Topeka, Kan., the Irish will meet Arkansas, Iowa State, Nebraska and Kansas, while in Columbus, Ohio, Notre Dame will swim against Florida, Indiana, North Carolina and Wisconsin.

Coming out of the holiday break, the Irish welcome Michigan and Northwestern to Rolfs for a two-day meet from Jan. 11-12, before heading to Indiana for a dual with the Hoosiers on Jan. 19.

The annual Shamrock Invitational is scheduled for Jan. 25-26, while the Irish will end the regular season at Toledo on Feb. 9.

Indianapolis, Ind., will be a familiar end of the season spot for the Irish this season, as both the BIG EAST and NCAA meets will be held at the IU Natatorium in Indiana’s capital city. The BIG EAST meet will be held from Feb. 27-March 2, with the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships slated for March 21-23.

The Irish are coming off an impressive 2011-12 campaign, where they finished second in the BIG EAST and 22nd nationally, while rising junior Kelly Ryan and rising sophomore Emma Reaney each earned All-America citations at the NCAA meet.
