Irish Women's Tennis Set to Compete at Midwest Regional Championships

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Notre Dame women’s tennis team is set to compete this weekend at the Midwest Regional Championships in the Combe Tennis Center on the campus of Northwestern University.

Nineteen teams comprise this year’s field, including seven Big Ten and three BIG EAST squads. Akron, Cleveland State, DePaul, Eastern Michigan, Illinois, Illinois-Chicago, Illinois State, Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne, Iowa, Marquette, Michigan, Michigan State, Northwestern, Ohio State, Toledo, Western Michigan, Wisconsin and Youngstown State join the Irish in Evanston, Ill., this weekend.

Singles qualifying play begins Thursday at 9 a.m., but the Irish will wait to take the court until the doubles matches begin Friday afternoon. The singles and doubles championship matches will be held Tuesday, Oct. 27.

Notre Dame has been successful at the Midwest Regional Championships in recent years. Last season, Kelcy Tefft and Kristy Frilling won the doubles title, giving the Irish their third-straight regional doubles championship, while Tefft advanced to the final match of the singles tournament. Notre Dame also had seven players advance to the singles Round of 16.
