Irish Women's Tennis Returns Home to Host Purdue

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The No. 14 Notre Dame women’s tennis team returns home Wednesday to host Purdue in an afternoon matchup at the Eck Tennis Pavilion.

The in-state rivals are set to face off at 4 p.m.

The Irish are coming off a strong performance at the ITA National Team Indoor Championships. Notre Dame advanced to the semifinals after knocking off fourth-ranked Baylor and fifth-ranked Stanford. The Irish fell to No. 1 Northwestern in their semifinal match.

The Irish are 6-1 this season, after facing seven ranked opponents. Freshman Shannon Mathews leads the Irish with a 6-0 dual-match singles record. Junior Cosmina Ciobanu holds a 4-1 mark, while sophomore Kristen Rafael sits at 5-2. Senior Kelcy Tefft is 3-2 at No. 1 singles this season, freshman Kristy Frilling is 3-3 at No. 2 and junior Kali Krisik is 2-4 at No. 3 singles.

The Irish have also shown strong doubles play. Tefft and Frilling are 5-1 this season at No. 1 doubles, Mathews and Colleen Rielley are 5-2 at No. 3 doubles and Ciobanu and Krisik hold a 2-4 mark at No. 2 doubles.

The Boilermakers have not played since a 4-3 setback at Western Michigan on Feb. 6. Purdue is 3-3 for the season.
