The Fighting Irish women’s tennis team opened play in its fall invitational, the Eck Classic, this afternoon going 2-2 on the day.

Only three of Notre Dame’s players are scheduled to play this weekend with freshman Kali Krisik joining sophomores Katie Potts and Kelcy Tefft in the Irish lineup.

Tefft was the lone victor for the Irish in singles, posting a 7-5, 7-5 victory over a determined Petra Rehsova from DePaul. Tefft, who played No. 4 singles in the Irish lineup last season, rallied from a deficit in the second set to earn the victory. She will face Megan Fudge of Illinois in semifinal action tomorrow.

Potts fell in three sets to Western Michigan’s Carrie Jeanmarie 1-6, 6-3, 6-3. It was a rare loss for Potts who posted a 29-5 record in singles last season.

Krisik also fell in her home debut dropping a 6-4, 6-4 decision to Kirsten Gambrell of DePaul. The Irish rookie will look to rebound in consolation play tomorrow

Potts and Krisik bounced back from their singles defeats to triumph 8-0 in doubles over Shivani Dave and Momei Qu of Illinois. They face the Western Michigan team of Priyanka Parekh and Noriko Saruta in tomorrow’s semifinals.

Play will resume tomorrow morning at 10:00 a.m. at the Eck Tennis Pavilion.
