Irish Women's Tennis Heads to Fayetteville, Ark., for ITA Qualifying

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Notre Dame women’s tennis team will travel to Fayetteville, Ark., this weekend for the ITA National Team Indoor regional qualifying matches.

The 17th-ranked Irish are the second seed in the Arkansas regional and will take on 44th-ranked Pepperdine Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Dills Indoor Tennis Courts. Saturday’s second match will feature 14th-ranked Arkansas against 58th-ranked Oregon.

Pepperdine sits at 1-1 this season, after dropping their season-opener to Sacramento State, 0-7. They defeated Cal State Northridge, 7-0. Oregon enters this weekend’s matches at 3-0 after wins over Idaho, Portland and Houston. Arkansas defeated St. Louis and Tulsa for a 2-0 record.

Notre Dame is 1-0 after a 6-1 defeat of 32nd-ranked Ohio State on Jan. 25.

The losers of Saturday’s matches will meet Sunday morning, with Saturday’s winners meeting that afternoon. The winner of Sunday’s afternoon match will join 14 other regional winners at the ITA National Team Indoor Championships in Madison, Wisc., Feb. 13-16.

This season, the ITA National Team Indoor Championships are part of the inaugural ITA Kick-Off Weekend, which showcases the top 60 men’s and women’s varsity teams in the country each squaring off at 15 campus sites. In addition to the Irish women’s squad, the Notre Dame men’s team is the fourth seed at the Tulsa regional. They will face the top-seeded home team Saturday at 2 p.m.
