WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Notre Dame women’s golf team shot a plus-38 (326) in the first round of the 2008 Landfall Tradition tournament, hosted by UNC Wilmington. Sophomore So-Hyun Park (Seoul, South Korea/Bradenton Prep) led the Irish, shooting a plus-seven 79 at the 6,117-yard Jack Nicklaus Pines Course of the Country Club of Landfall. Park, who opened the first round with six consecutive pars, and the Irish are in 11th place.
Sophomore Katie Conway (Wading River, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River) and freshman Becca Huffer (Denver, Colo./Littleton HS) both shot 82’s on day one of play. Their plus-10 scores put them in a tie for 41st place. Conway birdied the second hole for one of Notre Dame’s two birdies on the day.
Junior Annie Brophy (Spoakne, Wash./Gonzaga Prep) also scored for the Irish, as she shot an 83 (+11). Senior captain Lisa Maunu (St. Thomas, Ontario/Parkside Collegiate Institute) shot an 89 (+17) in the first round, to close out the Irish scores.
In addition to the Irish, the teams participating in the 2008 Landfall Tradition include UNC Wilmington, East Carolina, Florida, Michigan, N.C. State, North Carolina, North Carolina-Greensboro, Northwestern, Ohio State, Tulsa and Wake Forest.
Women’s play in the second round will begin at 9:12 a.m. on Saturday at the Pines Course. Live hole-by-hole scoring of the Landfall Tradition is available through Golfstat.
