COLUMBUS, Ohio — The 16th-ranked University of Notre Dame women’s track & field team added a bevy of top finishes to its impressive spring resume to close out what will likely be the final regular season meet for its top performers on Saturday at the Jesse Owens Track Classic at Ohio State.

Led by an elite sprint and hurdle group, the Fighting Irish women snagged three event crowns and several top five finishes to cap the day. Senior Amber Lalla earned her second win of the spring season, logging a PR in the 200 meters in 24.00, just edging teammate Margaret Bamgbose, who finished second in 24.01. Lalla also took second in the 400 meters (53.56) — also a PR and good for ninth in the Atlantic Coast Conference based on results posted to TFRRS.com by May 2 — to lead the Irish contingent.

Senior Jade Barber added yet another 100-meter hurdles victory to her name, winning the event in 13.47, while her sister Kaila Barber claimed the title in the 400-meter hurdles event in 58.55, which would place her in fifth place in the conference. The pair also teamed up with Parker English and Bamgbose to take second place in the 4×100-meter relay (44.88).

Junior Danielle Aragon continued her stellar spring and placed third in the 800 meters, though her 2:07.84 didn’t supplant her season best set at the Virginia Challenge in mid-April. In the field, shot-putter Emily Morris matched her 15.40-meter mark set at the Stanford Invitational on April 3, good for fifth in the conference heading into the day. Mary Esther Gourdin also grabbed a top-five finish in the triple jump with a hop of 12.03 meters.

The Fighting Irish men also added a handful of top-five marks, though their top performances were contained to the field. Senior Keith Mesidor placed fourth in the long jump with a jump of 7.19 meters, while Hunter Holton (high jump, 2.01 meters) and Nathan Richartz (pole vault, 4.90 meters) also placed fourth in their assigned events. In the hammer throw, Nicholas Hauser (58.05 meters) and Dominick Padovano (56.32) placed third and fourth, respectively. Hauser’s toss was a season best, though he stayed put at 11th place on the ACC hammer throw list based on marks entering the day.

Notre Dame will have one final meet to boost postseason qualifying marks next Saturday at the GVSU Last Chance Meet in Allendale, Michigan, with the Irish entries participating as needed. The ACC Outdoor Championships will follow in two weeks in Tallahassee, Florida.
