Irish Win Three Conference Titles at ACC Outdoor Championships

DURHAM, N.C. – Notre Dame traveled to Durham, North Carolina for the Outdoor ACC Track and Field Championships. The Irish took home three ACC titles in the women’s steeplechase, the men’s shot put, and the men’s 5000 meter.

Olivia Markezich took home the women’s steeplechase title running a season best and setting a facility record with a tie of 9:45.31. Teammates Madeleine King and Sophie Novak both set personal bests with times of 10:11.78 and 10:13.9, respectively. In the men’s steeplechase, Tom Seitzer took sixth place with a time of 8:45.18, and Zach Kreft ran for a time of 8:53.70. Both set new personal bests.

Michael Shoaf took first place in the men’s shot put. He established a personal best and a new facility record with a toss of 19.80m. John Stefan took third place with a throw of 18.91m, tallying a new personal best. William Loewen threw for a mark of 15.35m. In the women’s shot put, Rachel Tanczos took sixth place with a toss of 15.59m. Emma Albano threw for a mark of 12.55m.

Jacquline Gaughan, Lauren Bailey, and Katie Rose Blachowicz all ran in the 10000 meter race. Gaughan took fifth place with a time of 34:19.08, Bailey took eighth with a time of 34:30.03, and Blachowicz crossed the finish line at 35:06.07 taking 11th place. In the men’s 10000 meter race, Danny Kilrea took sixth place with a time of 28:58.06 and Anthony Russo ran for a time of 29:05.71 for ninth place.

Kaitlin Ryan ran in the women’s 800 meter race and took fourth place. She crossed the finish line at 2:05.66 tallying a personal best. In the men’s 800 meter race, Tim Zepf ran for a time of 1:47.71 and took third place. Bashir Mosavel-Lo took sixth place with a time of 1:48.43. 

In the 400 meter hurdles, Max Fry took third place and a personal best when he crossed the finish line at 50.70. In the women’s 5000 meter race, Meghan Scott took ninth place and a personal best with a time of 16:14.46. Teammate Lauren Bailey also ran in the 5000 meter race and crossed the finish line at 16:36.53.

Dylan Jacobs took home the conference title in the men’s 5000 meter race with a time of 13:23.45 and established a new meet record. Matthew Carmody also ran in the 5000 meter with a time of 13:51.03, along with teammate Andrew Alexander who crossed the finish line at 13:57.84. Carter Solomon also represented the Irish in the 5000 meter race with a time of 14:23.80. 

Rachel Tanczos took home ninth place in the women’s discus with a toss of 51.15m, and second place in the women’s hammer throw with a personal best throw of 65.87m. Emma Albano also threw for a mark of 54.29m in the hammer throw establishing a personal best. Madison Schmidt placed third in the women’s high jump with a mark of 1.79m. Sarah Flight registered a personal best with a mark of 1.73m. In the men’s hammer throw, Blake Kusky threw for a mark of 55.01m. 

Gabe Diederich took fourth in the women’s javelin throw with a mark of 51.89m. Olivia Fabry represented the Irish in the pole vault with a mark of 3.79m. Kendal Burgess participated in the women’s long jump with a jump of 5.60m. In the men’s javelin, Austin Parsons took sixth place with a throw of 67.93m. John Keenan threw for a mark of 65.66m.

The women’s 4×400 meter relay team crossed the finish line at 3:43.71, and the men’s relay team finished at 3:11.10. The women’s heptathlon had Alaina Brady representing the Irish. Brady took fifth place with 5574 points.
