Irish Win Six Events At Grand Valley Last Chance

GRAND VALLEY, Mich. – In a final tune-up for the NCAA East Regionals in two weeks, the Notre Dame track and field teams won six events at the Grand Valley Last Chance meet on Friday afternoon.

Picking up wins were Michelle Brown, Emily Morris, Susanna Sullivan, Mitch Lorenz, Johnathan Shawel and Kevin Schipper.

Final qualifiers for the NCAA East Regionals will be announced later this week on UND.com.

WINS

Sophomore Michelle Brown (55.08) won the 400m dash.

Freshman Emily Morris won the shot put with a throw of 14.45m.

Senior Susanna Sullivan won the 5,000m run in 17:11.24, finishing more than five seconds before her nearest competition.

Senior Mitch Lorenz won the men’s 800m run in 1:50.41.

Senior Johnathan Shawel won the 1,500m run by over two seconds with a time of 3:45.65.

Senior Kevin Schipper took another pole vault title, this time vaulting 5.22m, to win by .15 meters.

TOP EIGHT FINISHES

Sophomore Aijah Urssery took second in the 200m dash (23.90).

Freshman Emily Frydrych (2:11.29) and senior Allison Schroeder (2:11.49) took fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 800m run.

Senior Ann Polcari finished second in the pole vault with a vault of 3.81m.

Junior Madeline Casanova took fifth in the discus with a toss of 46.21m. She also took third in the hammer throw with a toss of 53.91m.

Senior Randall Babb finished just .19 seconds behind Lorenz in the 800m run (1:50.60).

Jarrod Buchanon took second in the 400m hurdles (53.55).

Kelly Lynch crossed the line in second, finishing in 9:07.65. Teammate Joe Miller took sixth in 9:16.02.

Keith Mesidor took third in the long jump with a leap of 6.92m.

Andrew Brock finished third in the shot put with a hurl of 16.90m.

Anthony Thomas (53.00m) and Dominick Padovano (50.33m) finished second and sixth, respectively, in the discus throw.

Andrew Hills placed sixth in the hammer throw with a toss of 54.95m.
