Queens, N.Y. – Brittany Bock, Kerri Hanks and Ashley Jones each factored into two Notre Dame goals ,as the 20th-ranked Irish women’s soccer team picked up its fourth straight win in Sunday’s 3-0 game at St. John’s. Notre Dame (7-4-1, 5-0-0 BIG EAST) now owns the eighth-longest conference unbeaten streak in NCAA Division I women’s soccer history, with a 28-0-1 mark in its past 29 games versus BIG EAST opponents.

Notre Dame allowed only two shots on goal and one corner kick in the game, completing a strong weekend that featured a 7-1 scoring margin (also 4-1 at Syracuse) while limiting the two opponents to 12 combined shots, four shots on goal and three corner kicks. The Irish have outscored the opposition 14-2 in the four-game winning streak while allowing only 22 shots (5.5/gm), seven shots on goal (1.8/gm) and five corners (1.3/gm).

Bock and Hanks each had a goal and assist while Jones assisted on the game’s first two goals, with a goal from Susan Pinnick providing the final margin. Bock has scored five times during her current three-game goal streak (tying a career-best) and now has 30 goals in her three-year Notre Dame career.

The depth of Notre Dame’s potent offense can be seen in the fact that the Irish now have three players with 30-plus career goals, the first Notre Dame team since 1999 that can make that claim. Hanks has totaled 58 goals in her three seasons while senior Amanda Cinalli has compiled 34 goals in four seasons with the Irish.

Notre Dame struggled to play with any continuity during the first half on the turf field at Belson Stadium before picking up its game and owning an 8-1 shot edge during the second half. Junior center back Carrie Dew initiated the first goal sequence with a pass to Jones in the 75th minute. Jones – who again played in the midfield and has yet to miss a game in her four-year career – then crossed the ball from the left side and Bock converted a short flick near the left edge of the box. Hanks received the ball and took a couple touches before striking a shot inside the near-left post for her team-leading eighth goal of the season (74:27).

Bock found the net 11 minutes later to provide the key two-goal cushion, as the Irish now have posted 250 consecutive wins when claiming a 2-0 lead (dating back to 1991). Jones picked up her fourth assist of the season and 12th of her career, with a short side pass to Hanks from the left side. Hanks then moved the ball on to Bock, who drilled a 15-yard shot into the far-right side of the net for her sixth goal of the season (85:22).

The final goal came 50 seconds later, with junior left back Elise Weber providing yet another cross from the left side. Pinnick trapped the ball and chipped a 12-yard shot over the `keeper for her second goal of the season and the 11th of her career (86:12).

NOTES – The first season of the Randy Waldrum era (1999) featured four different players who had 30-plus career goals: Jenny Heft (finished season with 80), Jenny Heft (70), Anne Makinen (46) and Meotis Erikson (46) … ND had three or more players with 30-plus career goals on its team every season from 1995-99 (also three in ’95 and ’96, four in ’97 and six in ’98) … the record-setting 1998 offense finished the season with six players who had 30-plus career goals: Monica Gerardo (73), Heft (60), Streiffer (51), Shannon Boxx (39), Makinen (38) and Erikson (32) … the current team could add a fourth 30-goal scorer, with sophomore F Michele Weissenhofer owning 22 career goals (she has been slowed the past few weeks with an ankle injury) … sophomore center back Haley Ford (hamstring) remains sidelined while Cinalli returned to action and played 16 minutes off the bench … the Irish have not been outshot in 61 straight games vs. BIG EAST teams … Bock (6G-1A in ’07; 30G-17A career) is tied with former teammate Jen Buczkowski for 22nd on the ND career points list (77; six behind Jen Grubb) … Bock’s 30 goals are 19th in ND history (one behind Stephanie Porter) and she needs three assists to become the 24th all-time ND player with 20G-20A (Weissenhofer has 22G-18A) … Hanks (8G-7A) again is emerging as one of the nation’s top all-around offensive players and remains ninth on the ND career points list (160, four back of Erikson) … Hanks still is eighth on the ND career goals list (58; one shy of Erikson and Michelle McCarthy) while she is tied with Gerardo and Kara Brown in career assists (44) … Hanks remains on pace to set ND records for career goals per game (0.94; 62 GP) and career points per game (2.58), with Heft (0.83) and Streiffer (2.11) owning those respective marks … Hanks now is one assist shy of becoming the sixth ND player to reach 45G-45A … Hanks has opened the scoring in 16 career games with the Irish, tying her with Guerrero for the second-most first goals in ND history (three behind Heft’s 19) … Hanks also now has 15 career gamewinning goals (tied for 8th in ND history, four back of another Heft record) while her 42 career gamewinning points (12 GWAs) move her past Erikson into seventh on that ND list … Jones is tied with four players (Rosella Guerrero, Amanda Guertin, Kelly Lindsey and Mia Sarkesian) for 22nd on the ND career games played list (91) while Cinalli has appeared in 90 career games … the Irish are 41-1-0 in their past 42 games when scoring first … Notre Dame’s 13 BIG EAST seasons now include a 111-8-4 record in BIG EAST regular-season games (.919), plus 27-2-0 in the BIG EAST Tournament.
