NOTRE DAME, Ind. – After taking a rare week off from competition, the Notre Dame men’s and women’s track and field squads posted four first-place finishes at the Billy Hayes and the Len Paddock Invitationals.

At the Billy Hayes Invitational hosted by the University of Indiana on Saturday, junior Marshaun West (Sikeston, Mo.) won his first long jump event of the outdoor season with a leap of 24-6 1/4. Freshman Liz Grow (New Braunfels, Texas) also grabbed her fourth win of the season in the 400 meters with a time of 53.59, while junior Jennifer Engelhardt (Battle Creek, Mich.) edged out teammate Kelle Saxen (Canton, Ohio) in the high jump with a first-place jump of 5-7 3/4. Other notable performance at the Billy Hayes Invitational included junior sprinter Chris Cochran’s (Crystal Lake, Ill.) third and fourth-place finishes in the 100 and 200 meters.

One day earlier at the Len Paddock Invitational hosted by the University of Michigan on Friday, juniors JoAnna Deeter (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) and Alison Klemmer (Troy, Mich.) took first and third place respectively in the 5,000-meter race. Deeter won the event by finishing with a NCAA provisional time of 16:44.19, while Klemmer came in third after completing the race in 17:18.38.

The Notre Dame men’s and women’s track teams will head to the Georgia Tech Invitational next Saturday in a last chance meet to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships, June 2-5. Select members from the men’s squad will also travel to Fairfax, Va. to participate in the IC4A Championships, May 22-23.
