NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Irish track and field squads wrapped up weekend competition Saturday, earning top-five finishes in eight events at the Drake Relays and Hillsdale’s Gina Relays.
At the Gina Relays, Jasmine Williams won the women’s triple jump, while Chrissy Finkel finished fourth in the women’s pole vault. For the men, Justin Schneider won the men’s pole vault with Jim Merchun finished fourth in the same event. Trent Sayers was third in the men’s 800 meters, and Patrick Glass and Connor Paladino finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the men’s triple jump.
At the Drake Relays, Joanna Schultz finished second in the women’s 400-meter hurdles.
Next week, the Irish head to Cincinnati, Ohio to compete at the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships.
Hillsdale Gina Relays Results
Women’s 800m: Angela Ryck finished 17th in 2:19.18. St. Norbert’s Emily Schrudowitz was the top runner in 2:10.61.
Women’s Triple Jump: Jasmine Williams was the top jumper with a mark of 11.69m (38-04 1/4). Lauren Leniart finished 14th at 10.46m (34-04).
Men’s 110m Hurdles: Justin Schneider finished 12th in 15.62. Indiana Tech’s Russell Dill was the top hurdler at 14.46.
Men’s Pole Vault: Justin Schneider won the event in a jump off at 4.40m (14-05 1/4). Jim Merchun finished fourth after also clearing a height of 4.40m (14-05 1/4). Andrew Kolbeck finished ninth at 4.25m (13-11 1/4).
Men’s Hammer: Andrew Hills finished sixth at 52.82m (173-03), and Mike Smigelski finished 11th at 47.50m (150-10).
Drake Relays Results
Men’s 1500m: J.P. Mallette finished eighth in 3:50.29. Iowa State’s Rico Loy won the event in 3:45.27.
Men’s Hammer: John Belcher finished 20th at 54.44m (178-07). Georgia’s John Freeman won the event at 67.13m (220-03).
Women’s 400m Hurdles: Joanna Schultz finished second at 58.59, just behind Indiana State’s Erica Moore in first at 57.21.
