Irish Track And Field Travels To Bloomington For Billy Hayes Invitational

Notre Dame, Ind. – The University of Notre Dame track and field teams will send a partial squads to compete this weekend in the Billy Hayes Invitational, hosted by Indiana University at the Robert C. Haugh Track and Field Complex on Saturday, May 3.

Coach Joe Piane’s men’s and women’s teams will bring just throwers and jumpers to this meet, giving between 10 and 15 student athletes the opportunity to qualify for the NCAA Regionals at the end of May. The remaining team members will have the weekend off after competing in the ACC Outdoor Championships April 17-19 and the Drake Relays last weekend, April 24-26.

Action at the Billy Hayes Invitational will begin at 11:00 a.m., Saturday morning with the women’s hammer throw and the men’s javelin with the final events, the men’s discus set for 5:00 p.m.

Following this weekend’s meet at Indiana University, members of the Irish track and field teams will travel to three different meets next weekend – May 9-10 – as they compete at the Dr. Keeler Invitational in Naperville, Ill., the Grand Valley Last Chance Meet in Allendale, Mich., and the Virginia Challenge in Charlottesville, Va.

These three meets also will be used by Notre Dame team members as a tune up and a last chance to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Preliminary Meet that will be held in Jacksonville, Fla., May 29-31.
