NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Notre Dame men’s and women’s track and field squads will have one more chance to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships as they host the Alex Wilson Invitational, one of the final “last chance” meets in the country, this weekend at the Loftus Sports Center.

Events get underway Friday at 5:00 p.m. with the women’s weight throw. The evening’s two running events, the men’s and women’s 5,000 meters and distance medley relays, begin at 7:00 p.m.

Saturday’s events kick off at 11:00 a.m. with the men’s triple jump and women’s shot put and women’s 60-meter hurdles.

The Irish have not competed since the BIG EAST Championships held on Feb. 20-21. The men collected their fourth conference indoor title in eight seasons and six Irish student-athletes won individual crowns.

Kevin Schipper won the men’s pole vault title, Jonathan Shawel took top honors in the men’s 1,000 meters, and Jack Howard claimed first place in the men’s 800 meters. Justin Schneider won the men’s heptathlon, and Joanna Schultz earned the women’s 400-meter title. Eric Quick won the men’s triple jump and was named the BIG EAST Men’s Most Outstanding Field Performer.

Admission to the Alex Wilson Invitational is free, and complete results will be available at www.UND.com following each day of competition.
