Irish Track and Field Ready for Purdue, Mt. SAC Meets

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Notre Dame track and field teams will travel to Walnut, Calif., and West Lafayette, Ind., for outdoor meets this week.

Members of the Irish teams will compete in the 51st annual Mt. SAC Relays, held Thursday through Saturday in Walnut, Calif. Competition gets underway at 5:30 p.m. (PDT) Thursday with the 3000-meter steeplechase.

Other Irish track and field athletes will head to West Lafayette, Ind., for the Dave Rankin Track and Field Invitational, hosted by Purdue.

The two-day meet begins Friday with the hammer throw at 3:00 p.m. (EDT). The javelin throw kicks off Saturday’s competition at 10:00 a.m., with running events scheduled to begin at noon.

The Irish are coming off strong performances at the Ole Miss Invitational last weekend.

Notre Dame took nine of the top-12 positions in the men’s 800 meters with junior Blake Choplin finishing first.

The Irish also got first-place performances from senior Heidi Rocha in the women’s 5000 meters, freshman Joe Miller in the men’s 3000-meter steeplechase and junior Jaclyn Espinoza in the women’s discus throw.
