Irish Track and Field Opens Home Season

Jan. 19, 2005

Notre Dame, Ind. – Notre Dame’s men’s and women’s track and field teams will compete at home for the first time Friday night when they welcome contingents from DePaul, Loyola, Western Michigan and Hillsdale to the Notre Dame Indoor Opener. Field events will begin at 5:30 p.m. with the men’s long jump and the first event on the track, the women’s 500 meters, will be at 7:00.

TRAFFIC CHANGES STILL IN EFFECT

As construction progresses on the new Guglielmino Family Athletic Complex, parking and access to the Loftus Center will remain the same as it was last season.

All fans will need to park in Notre Dame’s C1 parking lot directly south of the Joyce Center. Be prepared for a long walk to access Loftus Center, which can be found just north of Cartier Field and Moose Krause Stadium. There is no parking available in front of Loftus or behind the Joyce Center for those attending the track and field meet.

As always, admission to Notre Dame track meets is free.

EARLY SEASON RECAP

To date the Irish track and field teams have competed in one event this season. A week ago, on January 15th, a partial contingent of Notre Dame athletes traveled to Mount Pleasant, MI to take part in the Central Michigan Opener. While no members of the Irish distance teams took part in this early-season meet, Notre Dame athletes still managed four victories and 19 qualifications for the BIG EAST Championships.

The full squad looks to be in action for this weekend’s event.

RESULTS

Results from the Notre Dame Indoor Opener will be available after the conclusion of the meet on the und.com.
