Irish Track and Field Concludes Weekend Meets

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Notre Dame men’s and women’s track and field teams wrapped up weekend competition Saturday at the Indiana Invitational and Findlay Open.

After two days of competition, Maddie Buttinger finished second in the pentathlon with 3,693 points at the Findlay Open. She was the women’s top collegiate finisher. Justin Schneider won the men’s heptathlon with 5,061 points.

Several members of the Irish track and field squads found success at the Indiana Invitational.

Women’s 400m: Joanna Schultz took the top spot with a time of 54.77, just ahead of Natalie Geiger in second at 55.31.

Women’s 600m: Kelly Langhans crossed the line in 1:33.42 to finish first, while Allison Schroeder finished fourth in 1:35.33.

Women’s 800m: Natalie Johnson was the top finisher with a time of 2:12.22.

Women’s 60m Hurdles: Kali Watkins was fourth in 8.81.

Women’s Pole Vault (Friday competition): Ann Polcari took sixth with a vault of 3.20m.

Women’s Pole Vault (Main): Mary Saxer won the event with a mark of 4.07m.

Women’s Shot Put: Jaclyn Espinoza finished third with a toss of 14.01m.

Women’s Weight Throw: Anna Weber recorded a mark of 18.80m to finish first.

Women’s Mile (Open): Molly Sullivan finished 16th in 5:19.44.

Women’s Mile (Invitational): Lindsay Ferguson finished second with a time of 4:55.23, while Abby Higgins was sixth in 5:04.48.

Women’s 3000m Invitational: Molly Hirt clocked in at 10:14.54 to finish seventh.

Men’s 200m (Open): Tyrell Atkins finished fifth in 22.34.

Men’s 200m (Invitational): Miklos Szebeny finished third with a time of 22.12.

Men’s 400m: Notre Dame took three of the top five spots, as Balazs Molnar finished second in 48.92, Jordan Rincon was third in 48.98 and Billy Buzaid finished fifth with a time of 49.39.

Men’s 600m: Jack Howard led the field with a time of 1:20.33, and Jim Notwell finished third in 1:20.76.

Men’s 800m (Invitational): Blake Choplin won the event with a time of 1:51.10.

Men’s 800m (Open): Randall Babb finished fourth in 1:54.31, just ahead of Jonathan Shawel in fifth at 1:54.85.

Men’s Pole Vault (Friday competition): Jim Merchun finished eighth with a mark of 4.40m, followed by Andrew Kolbeck in 10th at 4.25m.

Men’s Pole Vault (Main event): Matt and Kevin Schipper tied for second with vaults of 5.27m.

Men’s Shot Put: Denes Veres was Notre Dame’s top finisher in fifth with a mark of 16.58m. Andrew Hills finished sixth at 16.23m, and John Belcher was seventh with a toss of 16.11m.

Men’s Weight Throw: Greg Davis finished fourth with a throw of 17.74m. Denes Veres was ninth at 16.32m, and Mitchell Gormley finished 10th at 16.07m.

Men’s High Jump: Doug Onuscheck finished ninth with a mark of 1.95m.

The Irish return home next weekend when they host the Meyo Invitational Feb. 6-7 at the Loftus Sports Center.
