Irish Track and Field Compete at Cardinal Twilight

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Irish track and field squad wrapped up competition Friday at the Cardinal Twilight held at the University of Louisville.

Notre Dame earned 10 top-five finishes, including three first-place performances. Rebecca Tracy won the women’s 800 meters, Joe Miller earned top honors in the men’s 3000-meter steeplechase and Kevin Schipper was the top finisher in the men’s pole vault.

The Irish will now wait to see which members of the squad qualified for the NCAA Regionals, held May 28-29 in Greensboro, N.C.

Cardinal Twilight Results

Men’s 1500m: Johnathan Shawel finished second at 3:48.55, followed by J.P. Mallette in fifth at 3:53.22 and Greg Kiley in eighth at 3:57.70.

Women’s 100m Hurdles: Nevada Sorenson finished fifth at 13.99, while Kali Watkins was ninth in 14.80.

Men’s 400m: Edward Hitchler finished fifth with a time of 48.48.

Women’s 800m: Rebecca Tracy won the event in 2:10.30, Kelly Langhans was third in 2:11.32, Natalie Johnson finished sixth in 2:12.28 and Abby Higgins was 12th at 2:17.84.

Men’s 800m: Jordan Carlson finished sixth in 1:51.88, followed by Blake Choplin in eighth in 1:52.06, Cameron Eckert in 10th at 1:52.11 and Kevin Labus in 11th at 1:53.15.

Men’s 3000m Steeplechase: Joe Miller won the event in 8:58.77, while Kelly Lynch finished fourth in 9:05.87.

Women’s Pole Vault: Chrissy Finkel finished 11th with a mark of 3.51m (11-06 1/4).

Men’s Pole Vault: Kevin Schipper was the top jumper at 5.26m (17-03). Jim Merchun finished fifth with a height of 4.76m (15-07 1/4).

Women’s Shot Put: Rudy Atang finished ninth at 14.69m (48-2 1/2).

Men’s Shot Put: Denes Veres finished third at 17.57m (57-07 3/4), followed by Andrew Hills in ninth at 16.31m (53-26 1/4).

Women’s Javelin: Elise Knutzen finished third at 43.37m (142-03), while Maddie Buttinger was 10t at 28.26m (92-08).

Men’s Hammer: Greg Davis finished ninth in 55.09m (180-09), Mitchell Gormley was 10th at 54.12m (177-07) and Andrew Hills was 12th at 52.83m (173-04).
