April 7, 2010

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Fighting Irish men’s golf team will play host to the Battle at the Warren at 2:30 p.m. on April 14 at the Warren Golf Course it was announced by head coach Jim Kubinski. The event will consist of one round of play and will involve Notre Dame and Detroit Mercy.

“We’re thrilled to have an opportunity to compete again on our Warren Golf Course,” said Kubinski. “We feel it’s one of the best competition courses in the country and one we’re obviously comfortable competing on. Our win here last October [in the 2009 Fighting Irish Gridiron Golf Classic] should bring back good feelings.”

The Detroit Titans return to the Warren for the first time since finishing 26th (923/+83) in the 2005 NCAA Central Regional. Most recently, the Titans finished fifth at the adidas Hoosier Invitational in Bloomington, Ind. on April 4.

“It’s a great chance to compete against a quality team and gain a bit of momentum heading into our BIG EAST Championship,” added Kubinski. “We have had limited opportunities in the winter months to see our full team in action, so the Battle at the Warren will allow our entire squad an opportunity to test their games. We’re all looking forward to the event.”

After the Battle at the Warren, the Irish return to action on Sun., April 18 at the BIG EAST Championship. This year’s tournament will be contested at the Innisbrook Resort & Golf Club in Palm Harbor, Fla.
