April 8, 2008

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Notre Dame men’s soccer team will host the Mexico Under-20 National Team on Friday, April 25 at Alumni Field. Game time is slated for 7:00 p.m. (ET). The match is being presented by St. Joseph Regional Medical Center. Tickets are $5 for adults and $2 for youth (18 and younger).

This will mark the fourth straight season that Notre Dame has hosted a Mexican National Team and the second meeting with a U-20 Mexican squad. Last spring, the Irish defeated the U-20s, 1-0, at Alumni Field. The other two matches came against the Mexico U-17 squad. In 2006, the Fighting Irish topped Mexico 5-0 and Notre Dame took the 2005 game 1-0.

There are several ways to purchase tickets for the match. You can call the Notre Dame ticket office at (574) 631-7356, visit und.com and click on `tickets’, stop by the ticket windows at Gate 1 of Notre Dame’s Joyce Center or they can be purchased the night of the game (until capacity is reached). It is recommended that fans purchase tickets in advance to prevent long lines at the ticket window the day of the match.

The match versus Mexico will be part of the Notre Dame men’s soccer 2007 season awards banquet and alumni weekend. The 2007 campaign witnessed the Irish making their second straight trip to the NCAA Tournament quarterfinals and earning a share of the BIG EAST Blue Division title. Notre Dame finished with a 14-5-5 record and a No. 6 national ranking.

A total of seven Fighting Irish players earned All-BIG EAST accolades in ’07, while seniors Joseph Lapira (Lake Charles, La./Saint Louis Catholic) and Ryan Miller (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) were named All-Americans. Lapira was a first-team choice for the second consecutive season, while Miller was a second-team pick. In addition, Miller became the first player in program history to be named an All-American and Academic All-American in the same season.
