Irish To Face Elite Field At Vanderbilt's Mason Rudolph Championship

The 14th annual Mason Rudolph Championship, hosted by Vanderbilt University, April 3-5, Vanderbilt Legends Club South Course, Franklin, Tennessee.

-THE LAYOUT
The Vanderbilt Legends Club has previously served as the host of a number of prestigious tournaments, most recently welcoming the women’s NCAA Championship in 2012. The LPGA has frequented the Vanderbilt Legends Club for events hosted by country music stars Vince Gill and Amy Grant, and the club has also served as the site of the Southeastern Conference (SEC) Women’s Golf Championship and United States Senior Open qualifying.

-THREE DAYS TO PLAY
The 54-hole stroke play tournament will be contested over three days, with fixed tee times beginning off the first and 10th tees on Friday at 7:30 a.m. (CT).

-14 TEAMS IN TENNESSEE LOOKING FOR A TITLE
A total of 14 teams are in the event field at this weekend’s Mason Rudolph Championship. Joining Notre Dame and host Vanderbilt are Alabama, Ball State, College of Charleston, ETSU, Georgia Southern, Georgia Tech, Indiana, Kennesaw State, Liberty, Louisville, Mercer and SMU.

Representing Notre Dame in the starting five will be sophomore Matthew Rushton, senior Tyler Wingo, sophomore Blake Barens, freshman Thomas Steve and senior David Lowe.

Notre Dame will travel to the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship on April 24-26 at the Old North State Club in New London, North Carolina.

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — Returning from a two-weekend tournament hiatus, the University of Notre Dame men’s golf team puts the finishing touches on its 2015 regular season schedule this weekend at the Mason Rudolph Championship in Franklin, Tennessee. The Irish will clash with three top 25 opponents and two fellow Atlantic Coast Conference foes during the three-day event on the par-71, 7,100-yard Vanderbilt Legends Club South Course.

Friday’s first round is scheduled to begin with tee times off the first and 10th tees at 7:30 a.m. (CT), with Saturday’s second round tentatively set for an 8:00 start. Sunday’s third and final round will begin at 7:30 a.m. at the Vanderbilt Legends Club South Course.

Other top 25 ranked teams in the tournament field besides the host, No. 6 Vanderbilt, are No. 15 Georgia Tech and No. 21 Kennesaw State. Notre Dame, Georgia Tech and Louisville will represent the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) during the Mason Rudolph Championship.

Notre Dame resumes its tournament schedule after placing 10th in a strong field at the Talis Park Challenge in Naples, Florida on March 15-16. The Irish were a mere four strokes from breaking into the tournament’s top five finishers, carding a final team score of 873 (290-292-291) at the par-71 Talis Park Golf Club.

Sophomore Blake Barens (70-74-71) and freshman Thomas Steve (69-73-73) paced the Notre Dame lineup at Talis Park with matching scores of two-over-par 215, tying for 20th place. Sophomore Matthew Rushton bounced back from a slow start over his first 36 holes to log a solid two-under 69 in his final round to build momentum for the remainder of the spring slate.

All three players return to the Notre Dame starting lineup at the Mason Rudolph Championship, alongside seniors Tyler Wingo and David Lowe. Wingo will make his fifth start of the 2014-15 season, while Lowe will enter his third tournament overall (first start) of his senior season.
