Irish Tied For Sixth After 36 Holes Of The Landfall Tradition

WILMINGTON, N.C. – The University of Notre Dame women’s golf team is tied for sixth after second round action concluded Saturday at The Landfall Tradition at the Country Club of Landfall – Jack Nicklaus Course. The Irish fired a second round 314 (+26) to sit at 620 (+44) overall.

Purdue pulled into a two-shot lead over Auburn with a total of 607 (+31), while the Tigers are currently at 609 (+33). Duke rounds out the top three, 10 shots off the pace of Purdue at 617 (+41). Individually, Auburn’s Victoria Trapani fired a Saturday 73 (+1) to claim the overall lead at 145 (+1) with Purdue’s Paul Reto (148, +4) and Laura Gonzalez (149, +5) in second and third, respectively.

For the Irish, sophomore Kristina Nhim (Cypress, Calif.) moved atop the Irish rotation and into a share for 13th overall after putting together a 77 (+5) on Saturday. Nhim posted 12 pars along with one birdie, four bogeys and a double bogey on her round and is currently at 153 (+9) after 36 holes of play.

Becca Huffer (Denver, Colo.) finds herself tied for 16th overall after registering a 78 (+6) on Saturday to push her to 154 (+10) after two rounds. The Irish senior carded two birdies along with two bogeys, three double bogeys and 11 pars.

Freshman Ashley Armstrong (Flossmoor, Ill.) moved into third amongst the Irish and tied for 26th overall after putting together a Saturday 82 (+10). Overall, Armstrong has totaled a score of 156 (+12). On Saturday’s round, Armstrong failed to net a birdie, while marking down 12 pars, three bogeys, two double bogeys and a triple bogey. Her score was not used toward the team count.

Freshman Kelli Oride (Lihue, Hawaii) is tied for 50th overall after posting a 79 (+7) in her second round for a cumulative score of 159 (+15), while senior Katie Allare (Phoenix, Ariz.) is 90th after registering an 80 (+8) in her second round. Oride was able to mark down birdies on holes 16 and 17 on her round, while Allare got her lone birdie on the par-3, fourth hole.
