GREENSBORO, N.C. — Notre Dame freshman Max Scodro (Chicago, Ill./Notre Dame Prep (Ariz.)) fired a two-under par 142 (70-72) and is tied for third place following the first two rounds of the UNCG Bridgestone Collegiate Championship, which teed off Monday at the Forest Oaks Country Club (par 72/7,197 yards) in Greensboro, N.C. Scodro’s sharpshooting has helped the Irish move into a tie for seventh place in the 14-team field at 13-over par 589 (297-292), sharing the middle ground with Maryland and Memphis, 14 shots back of overnight leader Michigan.

Scodro turned in a sizzling first round with six birdies, including three on his first four holes of the day. He added five more birdies in the afternoon session and, were it not for a bogey on the final hole of his second round, Scodro would have finished in red numbers for both of Monday’s rounds. As it stands, he is three shots back of the tournament co-leaders Payne Gniewek (Michigan State) and Bill Rankin (Michigan) and even with Memphis’ Jordan Payne in the 76-man field.

Sophomore Connor Alan-Lee (Solana Beach, Calif./La Jolla Country Day School) also played solid golf on Monday, rising into a tie for 16th place at two-over par 146 (72-74). The second-year standout has been remarkably consistent through 36 holes, carding a combined four birdies and 26 pars.

Junior co-captain Olavo Batista (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Chapel) is tied for 40th place in his debut with the Irish travel squad, firing a six-over par 150 (76-74). Junior Doug Fortner (Tustin, Calif./Foothill) is in a 56th-place tie at 10-over par 154 (82-72), while freshman Chris Walker (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands) shares 62nd place at 11-over par 155 (79-76), also making his first-ever start for Notre Dame.

The Irish will head back out to Forest Oaks on Tuesday for the final round of the UNCG Bridgestone Collegiate Championship, which gets underway at 8:30 a.m. (ET). Live in-progress scoring is available on the Golfstat web site, while complete results will be posted on the official Notre Dame athletics web site (www.UND.com) and the Notre Dame Sports Hotline (574-631-3000) at the conclusion of the day’s action.
