Irish Tied For Eighth After First Round Of Lady Paladin Invitational

GREENVILLE, S.C. – The 12th-ranked Notre Dame women’s golf team carded a 311 (+23) during the first round of the Lady Paladin Invitational on Friday at the par-72, 6,288-yard Furman University Golf Course. The Irish are 12 shots off the pace established by East Tennessee State. Junior Lisa Maunu (St. Thomas, Ontario/Parkside Collegiate Institute) and freshman Katie Conway (Wading River, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River) both shot a three-over par 75 to lead Notre Dame on the day.

During a first round plagued by wind and rain, East Tennessee State carded an 11-over par 299. The Buccaneers will take a one-stroke advantage over TCU into Saturday’s second round. North Carolina-Greensboro is third with a 307, while Augusta State and Northwestern are tied for fourth out of the 18-team field with identical 309 totals.

Carmen Perez-Narbon of UNC-Wilmington tops the field of 96 golfers with a two-under-par 70. She leads East Tennessee State’s Laura Jansone by one stroke with three players tied for third at even-par.

Maunu and Conway are among a six-way tie for 10th, five shots off the lead. Notre Dame freshman So-Hyun Park (Seoul, South Korea/Bradenton Prep (FL)) carded an eight-over par 80 and is tied for 54th. Her sophomore teammate Kristin Wetzel (Middletown, N.Y./Hilton Head Prep (SC)) is one shot behind with an 81 and in a seven-way tie for 58th.

Sophomore Annie Brophy (Spokane, Wash./Gonzaga Prep) rounds out the Notre Dame lineup as she registered an 84 (+12) and is in a four-way tie for 82nd. The Fighting Irish, who are in search of their fourth straight victory to open the 2007-08 season, will look to rebound on Saturday.

Saturday’s second round of the Lady Paladin Invitational will get underway with tee times beginning at 8:30 a.m. (ET).
