Irish Tied For 11th After First Round Of The TaylorMade Aztec Fall Classic

CHULA VISTA, Calif. – The Notre Dame women’s golf team fired a first-round total of 310 (+22) on Monday to reside in a tie for 11th-place after the first round of the TaylorMade Aztec Fall Classic at the par 72, 6,259-yard Salt Creek Golf Club. Senior co-captain Noriko Nakazaki (Hanover Park, Ill./Hoffman Estates) paced the Fighting Irish with a one-under par 71, which is a season-best round, and is tied for fifth overall. The two-round tournament will conclude on Tuesday.

Denver, who entered the tournament ranked No. 3 in the latest Golfstat rankings, leads the 19-team field with a nine-under par round of 279 on Monday. BYU, the 14th-ranked team according to Golfstat, is 17-shots off the pace after posting a 296. Denver’s Emily Hoeper is the individual leader with a six-under par 66.

Irish freshman Annie Brophy (Spokane, Wash./Gonzaga Prep) shot a six-over par 78 on the day and is tied for 46th, while her senior teammate Stacy Brown (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands), who is playing as an individual entrant, also fired a 78, which tied her top round of the season.

Junior Jane Lee (Atlanta, Ga./Peninsula (Calif.)) posted an eight-over par 80 for Notre Dame to reside in a tie for 69th out of the 113-golfer field. Sophomore Lisa Maunu (St. Thomas, Ontario/Collegiate Parkside Institute) and freshman Kristin Wetzel (Middletown, N.Y./Hilton Head Prep) both fired identical nine-over par 81s to enter the final round in a tie for 76th.
