Irish Tied For 11th After First Round Of Edwin Watts/Palmetto Intercollegiate

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – The Notre Dame women’s golf team posted a 308 (+20) during the first round of the Edwin Watts/Palmetto Intercollegiate on Monday at the par 72, 5,953-yard Oak Point Golf Club to reside in a tie for 11th following the first 18 holes of play. Monday’s second round was suspended due to darkness at 5:30 p.m. (ET). Play will resume at 8:15 a.m. on Tuesday. Senior Noriko Nakazaki (Hanover Park, Ill./Hoffman Estates) led the Irish on the day with a one-over par 73 to place in a tie for sixth.

Campbell University leads the 19-team field after recording a seven-over par 295 in round one. The University of Miami is one shot behind the Camels with a 296, while Western Carolina is third with a 298. Steffi Kirchmayr from the College of Charleston, the host school for the event, leads all 99 individual competitors after carding a three-under par 69 in the first round.

Fighting Irish teammates Jane Lee (Atlanta, Ga./Peninsula (Calif.)), a junior, and Lisa Maunu (St. Thomas, Ontario/Collegiate Parkside Institute), a sophomore, both posted identical six-over par 78s and are in a tie for 52nd place. Freshman Kristin Wetzel (Middletown, N.Y./Hilton Head Prep) fired a 79, while her classmate Annie Brophy (Spokane, Wash./Gonzaga Prep) carded an 82 to place in ties for 61st and 81st, respectively.
