Irish Take Two First Place Finishes at Michigan Invitational

ANN ARBOR, MI – The University of Notre Dame track and field team opened the year with the Michigan Invitational hosted by the University of Michigan. The Irish brought home sixteen top-five finishes including two first place finishes in the women’s high jump and long jump.

The Irish kicked off the meet with the 60 meter dash where Shae Douglas ran for a 7.71 qualifier to make it to the finals. She then crossed the finish line at 7.74 in the finals taking third place. Douglas also ran in the 200m where she tallied a personal best with a time of 24.94.

In the 60 meter hurdles Jadin O’Brien, Alaina Brady, and Reese Sanders all competed for the Irish. O’Brien crossed the finish line at 8.54, Brady at 8.70, and Sanders at 9.12. Brady went on to take second place in the finals with a time of 8.61.

Three men competed for the Irish in the 400 meter run. Joey Dobrydney ran for a time of 49.87, John Oleksak crossed the finish line at 50.21, and Luke Phillips ran for a personal best with a time of 50.49. They took fourth, sixth, and eighth place, respectively.

In the women’s 400 meter run, Remy Finn finished with a time of 58.33 and teammate Molly Bennet finished in 58.97. The women’s 600 meter saw three Irish cross the finish line. Reese Sanders, Eve Balseiro and Alaina Brady all ran for top ten finishes. Sanders ran for a time of 1:35.23, Balserio finished in 1:36.76, and Brady clocked in at 1:41.77.

Women’s high jump saw a first place finish from Madison Schmidt with a mark of 1.71m. Teammates Jadin O’Brien, Arianna Martinez, and Sarah Flight all tallied marks of 1.68m leading the Irish to take first through fourth place in the high jump. Jadin O’Brien also competed in the women’s shot put and took third place with a mark of 13.65m.

The women’s long jump had the Irish leading again with Kendall Burgess taking home first place with a jump of 5.71m. Alaina Brady took third with a jump of 5.56m. Teammates Remy Finn and Madison Schmidt finished with marks of 5.39m and 4.95m, respectively.
