Irish Tabbed To Finish Fourth In Conference

Aug. 13, 2015

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Atlantic Coast Conference released its women’s soccer preseason poll and All-ACC Team on Thursday, with the Fighting Irish featured prominently among the conference coaches’ assessments.

Notre Dame came in rated fourth of 14 teams in the coaches poll, behind reigning national champion Florida State, national runner-up Virginia and North Carolina. The Seminoles, ranked No. 1 in the NSCAA preseason top 25, received 12 first-place votes, while the No. 2 Cavaliers and No. 7 Tar Heels picked up one each. The Irish are ranked ninth nationally.

Seniors Katie Naughton and Cari Roccaro were also recognized by the coaches as members of the preseason all-conference squad. The pair made Notre Dame one of three programs with more than one representative on the team, as Florida State had three picks (Megan Campbell, Isabella Schmidt and Cheyna Williams) and Virginia also had two (Makenzy Doniak and Emily Sonnett).

Roccaro and Naughton were named to TopDrawerSoccer.com preseason Best XI teams earlier this month.

The Irish will wrap up their preseason slate at 1 p.m. ET Sunday when they welcome Illinois for an exhibition match at Alumni Stadium. Admission is free.
