NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Notre Dame men’s lacrosse program finds itself in a familiar position entering the 2018 season, which is in the top 10 of every major preseason poll.
The Irish come in at No. 6 in the Inside Lacrosse Media Poll, the USILA Coaches Poll and the US Lacrosse Magazine preseason rankings. Quint Kessenich pegged Notre Dame at No. 8 in his annual preseason rankings.
The Irish were selected to tie for first in the Preseason Atlantic Coast Conference Coaches Poll. Notre Dame earned 17 points in the rankings to tie for the top spot with Duke.
Individuals who have been selected to have a big season are senior long-stick midfielder John Sexton, junior short-stick defensive midfielder Drew Schantz and senior face-off man John Travisano, Jr. All three were selected by the Atlantic Coast Conference coaches as Preseason All-ACC honorees.
The Fighting Irish get the 2018 season underway at home, as the team hosts Detroit in the season opener at 1 p.m. ET inside Loftus Sports Center on Sunday, Feb. 11. The game will air live on ACC Network Extra/ESPN3 via the WatchESPN app.
