Irish Swimmers In Action At U.S. Open

IRVINE, Calif. – Three members of the University of Notre Dame men’s swimming team took to the water Monday, representing Irish Aquatics on the opening day of the 2013 United States Open at the William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center.

John Williamson posted the best opening day finish of the men’s Irish Aquatics swimmers in the field. After entering the 200-meter butterfly with a seed time of 2:02.93, Williamson shaved nearly three seconds during his prelim heat, logging a swim of 1:59.99 to touch the wall in 15th place. Williamson clinched entry into lane one of the B final of the event Monday night, posting a 16th-place finish with a final swim of 2:00.21.

Brennan Jacobsen was the other Notre Dame entrant in the 200-meter butterfly, finishing in 72nd place with a time of 2:06.02. Jacobsen added a 43rd-place result in the 1,500-meter freestyle after recording a time of 16:30.32.

Frank Dyer was the third and final Irish Aquatics swimmer to compete on day one. Dyer narrowly missed out on reaching the final heats in the 100-meter freestyle, touching the wall in 51.02 for a 46th-place finish.
