Irish Successful at Meyo Invitational

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The University of Notre Dame track and field program wraps up a successful weekend of hosting the Meyo Invitational on Friday February 4 and Saturday February 5.

After two days and five total events, Jadin O’Brien brought home the first win for the Irish when she took home first place in the women’s indoor pentathlon. O’Brien registered 4,228 points over five events.

Also in the women’s indoor pentathlon, Irish track members Alaina Brady and Madison Schmidt took home second and third place, respectively. Brady scored 3,867 points and Schmidt tallied 3,574 points.

Rachel Tanczos threw well when she took second place in the women’s weight throw with a mark of 21.90m. Michael Shoaft took fourth in the men’s shot put with a mark of 18.91m. Continuing on with the success, teammate John Stefan threw for a mark of 17.80m.

In the men’s pole vault, Nolan Blachowski finished with a mark of 4.75m and took home fourth place. On the women’s side of field events, Kendall Burgess finished in the long jump with a mark of 5.47m, and in the women’s high jump Sarah Flight  hit a mark of 1.59m.

The women’s 4000m distance medley relay saw Notre Dame take first place when Kaitlin Ryan, Katherine Smith, Erin Sullivan, and Madeline King crossed the finish line at 11:27.29. In the distance events, Jaqueline Gaughan took first place in the 5000m run with a time of 16:29.24. In the 3000m, Sophie Novak ran for a time of 9.38.83 and took second place.

In the women’s 800m Kaitlin Ryan and Erin Sullivan each took eighth and ninth place, respectively. Ryan crossed the finish line with a time of 2:09.06 and Sullivan finished with a time of 2:09.22. Olivia Markezich took third place in the women’s 3000m with a time of 9:08.51. 

In the famous mile run, Madeleine King ran for a time 4:50.08 and crossed the finish line taking ninth place.

In the men’s running events, Carter Solomon took second place in the men’s 5000m. He took a time of 13:59.18. Teammates Zach Kreft and Nicholas Mota were right behind him when they crossed the finish line at 14:04.76 and 14:40.12, respectively. 

In the men’s 800m, Samuel Voelz and Tim Zepf took second and third place with times of 1:48.24 and 1:48.36. Bashir Mosavel-lo was also in the mix when finished with a time of 1:49.71.

The Fighting Irish return to action next weekend at the Iowa State Classic, the Music City Invitational, and the ​​David Hemery ValentineInvitational on February 11 and February 12.
