Irish Student-Athletes Take Part In 2013 Career Boot Camp

Feb. 14, 2013

Through the support of the Student-Athlete Advisory Council and the Student Welfare and Development Office at Notre Dame, Irish student-athletes got a chance to prepare for their respective futures with the 2013 Career Boot Camp. The event, which took place the day prior to spring classes starting in January, offered a unique perspective to current student-athletes to help them get a handle on their future endeavors.

This year’s camp provided those who participated with an opportunity to sit in on a pair of question-and-answer panels comprised first of current student-athletes and then former Notre Dame student-athletes.

Joey Brooks (basketball), Marta Stepien (fencing), Tylor Gauger (swimming) and Eric Tilly (soccer), all seniors in their respective sports, comprised the current student-athletes panel, while Dan Santucci (football, ’06), Claire Gallerano (soccer, ’07), Jason Beckstrom (football, ’03), Brenda Torres (soccer, ’93) and John Belcher (track and field, ’11) were on hand to represent the Monogram Club.

At the conclusion of the panel discussions, all participants enjoyed a networking luncheon and mingling session with several employers including adidas, Coyote Logistics, Credit Suisse, Crowe Horwath, EJ Gallo, Enterprise Holdings, Ernst and Young, General Electric, Groupon, ICAP, Innovation Park, KPMG, Notre Dame Federal Credit Union, Price Waterhouse Cooper, Stryker and Whirlpool.

Following the boot camp, the career center staff provided resume critique sessions in the Student Welfare and Development Commons Room. These series of events were geared not only to preparing students for life after sport in general, but also for the Winter Career Fair, which took place on January 29 in the Joyce Center on campus.
