BATON ROUGE, La. – Facing off against eight other ranked teams, the No. 30 University of Notre Dame women’s golf team shot a 24-over-par 312 to finish day one at the LSU Tiger Golf Classic in seventh place. The three-day classic is being played at the par-72 University Club.

Junior Talia Campbell (Dallas, Texas/Ursuline Academy), ranked No. 84 in the latest GolfStat national rankings, tied senior Kelli Oride (Lihue, Hawaii/Kauai) for 27th, as both Irish standouts fired 5-over-par 77’s. Freshman Kari Bellville (Granger, Indiana/Penn) finished tied for 31st with a 6-over-par 78, while senior Ashley Armstrong (T-48th, 80, +8) and sophomore Jordan Ferreira (T-61st, 81, +9) rounded out the Irish contingent.

Campbell, Oride and Bellville all shot below the day’s average (79.16).

Highlighting Campbell’s day was a birdie on the par-3 fifth hole, while Oride notched birdies on the par-4 seventh and on the par-5 17th. Armstrong (Flossmoor, Illinois/Homewood-Flossmoor) logged two birdies – one on the par-4 first hole and on the par-4 seventh – while Ferreira (University Place, Washington/Bellarmine Prep) had a birdie on the par-3 eighth hole.

Campbell shot one-under-par on the par 3s to finish tied for fourth in that category.

The home-standing LSU Tigers are in first place after a day one score of 297 (+9). TCU’s Kelly McGovern, North Carolina’s Leslie Cloots and Oklahoma’s Hannah Wood all tied for first place after shooting even-par 72.

Notre Dame leads three ranked squads – No. 33 NC State (9th, +26, 314), No. 40 Colorado (T-11th, +28, 316) and No. 10 Wake Forest (13th, +29, 317).

Day two gets underway at 9:30 a.m. (ET) on Saturday, as Ferreira goes off the first tee. Armstrong (9:40 a.m.), Bellville (9:50 a.m.), Oride (10 a.m.) and Campbell (10:10 a.m.) follow off the first tee to round out the Notre Dame lineup.
