Irish Show Dominating Performance at Notre Dame Invitational

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – On Saturday January 22, 2022 the Irish hosted their annual Notre Dame Invitational against DePaul, Lewis, Loyola, and Indiana Tech. 

The Irish women showed out again in the jumps and throws competition when Jadin O’Brien took first in the long jump with a mark of 5.82m. Rachel Tanczos dominated her performances as she took first place in the weight throw with a toss of 20.74m and second in the shot put with a mark of 14.88m.

There were also dominating performances from Madison Schmidt who jumped for 1.68m in the high jump and Alexandra Chlumsky who took third in the pole vault with a final mark of 3.30m. Emma Albano took third in the weight throw with a toss of 15.63m with teammate Ava Butterbaugh throwing for 13.99m. Shot put competition saw impressive throws from Alesis Juntnen who threw for 13.30m, and Butterbaugh and Albano throwing for 12.14m and 11.94m respectively.

Caroline Isemann took fourth in the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.38s and in the 60m dash the Irish took fourth and sixth with Shae Douglas and Kendall Burgess clocking in at 7.96s and 7.94s. The 4×400 meter relay team took first and third place. The first place team consisted of Eve Balseiro, Alaina Brady, Erin Sullivan, and Jadin O’Brien. They crossed the finish line at 3:46.39. The third place team of Caroline Isemann, Megan Hughes, Madison Schmidt, and Katherine Smith crossed the finish line at 3:53.80.

The women again showed a dominating performance in the mile run when they took first through seventh place. Olivia Markezich took first with a time of 4:46.57, Meghan Scott took second at 4:47.92, and Katie Rose Blachowicz in third with a time of 4:48.88.

Eve Balseiro took home second place in the 400 meter run when she crossed the finish line at 55.71s. Teammate Erin Sullivan took home first in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:09.57. Kaitlin Ryan and Megan Hughes took second and third with times of 2:10.19 and 2:12.79, respectively.

On the men’s side of competition, the 4×400 meter relay (Joseph Dobrydney, John Oleksak, Max Frye, and Theo Chambers) clocked in at first place with a time of 3:15.22. The men saw a second place finish in the men’s 3000 meter run when Nicholas Mota crossed the finish at 8:24.57.

The men swept the mile run when they took first through sixth. Yared Nuguse took first with a sub-four minute mile at 3:54.46. Dylan Jacobs wasn’t far behind when he crossed at 3:57.67, and Sam Voelz crossed at 4:04.86. Tim Zepf took fourth (4:06.57), Bashir Mosavel-lo took fifth (4:07.91), and Vincent Zona took sixth (4:12.66).

The 400 meter run was a good showing too when Chambers took third with a time of 48.81. Max Frye took fourth (48.83), and Joseph Dobrydney in fifth with a time of 49.16. Thomas Walters took third in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:55.29.

Michael Shoaf took first in both the shot put and weight throw. He threw in the shot put for a mark of 18.54m and in the weight throw for 19.46m. William Lowewen took third in the men’s shot put with a mark of 14.92m. Blake Kusky earned a mark of 15.56m for fourth place in the weight throw.
