On The Panthers

Eastern Illinois has started the season 0-2, with losses to Illinois State and Illinois to start the season. The Panthers reached the semi-final of the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament last spring after a 14-9 season and are picked to finish third in the conference this season.

The Irish and Panthers will meet for the first time in over 35 years. Their last previous meeting came on Sept. 11, 1982, when the then-Division II Irish prevailed 8-1 under coach Sharon Petro. It is the only previous meeting in the series.

Last Time Out

The Irish swept to their 15th consecutive season-opening victory on Tuesday, defeating Western Michigan 7-0 at the Eck Tennis Pavilion. The Irish won all three doubles matches before going on to win all but one singles match in straight sets. Freshmen Cameron Corse (singles, doubles), Caroline Dunleavy (singles) and Ally Bojczuk (doubles) made their first career starts in an Irish dual match, all going undefeated.
