HEADING TO THE COVE – The Notre Dame baseball team (20-15, 8-4 BIG EAST) continues its 13-game homestand on Wed., April 20, in a game vs. Purdue at Coveleski Stadium in downtown South Bend (6:05 EST) … the game will be telecast live by Comcast Local throughout Michigan (and on Comcast Channel 3 in South Bend), with delayed broadcasts on Comcast SportsNet Chicago … this marks ND’s first game at Coveleski since the 1994 Midwestern Collegiate Conference Tournament (Eck Stadium opened earlier in that ’94 season) … an ND-Purdue game scheduled to be played at The Cove in 2001 was rained out … ND played portions of its regular-season schedule at Coveleski during the 1988-93 seasons, compiling a 59-20 (.747) overall record in the facility (including the ’88-’94 MCCs) … Coveleski Stadium is home to the single-A South Bend Silverhawks (affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks) of the Midwest League … Paul Mainieri, in his 11th season at ND and 23rd overall as a college head coach, heads into the Purdue game with a 801-466-2 career record (.632) that includes 470-187-1 (.715) with the Irish … he just became the 27th active Div. 1 coach with 800-plus career wins as a college head baseball coach.

PROBABLE PITCHING MATCHUP – Notre Dame’s probable starter vs. Purdue is freshman LHP Wade Korpi (5.66, 1-1, 12 GP/4 GS, 35 IP, 46 H/.326, 23 BB, 24 Ks, 4 HB) … Purdue is expected to counter with sophomore RHP Dan Sattler (4.15, 1-3, 6 GP/5 GS, 17.1 IP, 22 H/.306, 11 BB, 13 Ks, 4 HB) … probable ND relief pitchers vs. Purdue would include sophomore RHP Derik Olvey, senior LHP Scott Bickford and junior All-America closer Ryan Doherty.
