Irish Set To Host Seventh Annual Daughters For Dads Fundraiser

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — Notre Dame Women’s Lacrosse annually dedicates a portion of their season to raise awareness and funding for the Harper Cancer Research Institute through their Daughters for Dads (D4D) campaign.  As D4D enters its 7th year, the team will host a virtual 5k starting on March 11, 2021 and ending April 10, 2021.  Walk or run with your friends and family to help us raise money to find a cure for this disease.

“Seven years ago we learned in our program that sometimes you don’t choose a cause, a cause chooses you,” said Irish head coach Christine Halfpenny. “When we began Daughters For Dads, we took the pain of loss and turned it into a passion. Now, our continued passion is to utilize the Notre Dame platform to be a force for good in the world in these difficult times.”

Details regarding the 5k can be found below. To register, click here.

“Seven years ago, our program suffered a pair of heartbreaking losses to our women’s lacrosse family, and both were fathers to two of our alumni, said Halfpenny. “That same year, two of my former players from William & Mary lost their fathers to cancer. Our fight is fueled by the memories we share of Bryan Shoemaker, Don Tremblay, David Anderson and Phil Mulvey.  No one has said it better than Jordy Shoemaker: `Dollars lead to research, research leads to more time, and more time is priceless.’ We look forward to seeing you all month long to help us in our fight against cancer.

No One Fights Alone:

This last week, the Irish participated in “Game Hair Havoc” in their contest against Robert Morris and helped raise over $3,700 towards families in the fight against cancer.

Now, in addition to the annual Daughters For Dads efforts, the Irish women’s lacrosse program will also be fundraising and raising awareness for another foundation: No One Fights Alone (NOFA). NOFA is committed to raising awareness and offering support for those in our communities battling all types of cancers.

“Seven years later after D4D began, our current team members are now finding causes that speak to them,” said Halfpenny. “One of our senior student-athletes, Olivia Jacobsen, brought NOFA to the table and this is an initiative that we’re excited to intertwine with D4D. This past year has been so difficult for many, and has been exponentially difficult for those battling cancer. I’m proud to see our D4D efforts expand through this program’s commitment to being a force for good.”
