Irish Set to Host No. 18 Michigan in Home Opener

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The 14th-ranked Notre Dame women’s tennis team will look to keep its record perfect Friday when the Irish host No. 18 Michigan at the Eck Tennis Pavilion.

Friday’s 4 p.m. match will be the home opener for the Irish.

Notre Dame is 3-0 in dual matches this season and is coming off an upset of then-No. 14 Arkansas at the ITA National Team Indoor regional qualifier. The Irish knocked off the Razorbacks, 4-1, to advance to the National Team Indoor Championships Feb. 13-16.

The Irish are led by the No. 1-ranked doubles duo of senior Kelcy Tefft and freshman Kristy Frilling, the reigning BIG EAST Player of the Week. Tefft and Frilling are 3-0 this season and combine with the rest of the Irish squad for a 7-1 doubles record through three matches. Notre Dame has a 12-2 singles record in dual matches this season.

The Wolverines are 3-1 this season and are coming off a 5-2 defeat of Texas in the consolation match of the ITA National Team Indoor qualifier. Michigan lost to North Carolina, 5-2, in their first qualifying match. The Wolverines opened the season 2-0, after defeating Marquette, 7-0, and South Carolina, 4-3.
