NOTRE DAME, Ind. — The University of Notre Dame women’s soccer team is set to open its 25th consecutive NCAA tournament at 6 p.m. ET on Saturday against IUPUI. The Irish will host the Jaguars at Alumni Stadium for the second time in program history.
Notre Dame will look to its experienced defense to help it rebound against the Jaguars. The Irish, which are 2-1-1 in their last four contests (all road games), need a stellar performance from its back line as well as its goalkeeper.
The Irish defense has kept Notre Dame in every game it has played, limiting the damage especially in the second half of play. Notre Dame has gone 7-2 in games decided by two goals or more, a record indicative of the back line’s consistency.
“We are looking for a consistent performance on both ends of the ball,” Irish head coach Theresa Romagnolo said. “We want to control the game and create quality chances in front of the goal while limiting their opportunities.”

Series History
Notre Dame has faced IUPUI once in program history on Nov. 13, 2009 in the first round of the NCAA Championships. The Irish defeated IUPUI 5-0 in the match.
25th Straight Bid
Notre Dame received its 25th straight bid in the NCAA Championship. The Irish will look to advance to their 13th College Cup and ultimately win their fourth national title. The Irish have gone 67-20-2 in 24 trips to the NCAA Championship. Notre Dame has played host to at least one match in 22 of its 24 tournament appearances thus far.
“This group has been to the postseason each year and faced many different challenges,” Romagnolo said. “We are excited for the NCAA tournament and will use the experience we’ve gained this season as well as past experiences to motivate and guide us.”

- Notre Dame has competed against an NCAA tournament team 13 times this season, going 5-5-3 in those contests.
- The Irish are 4-4-1 in nine home games this season.
- Notre Dame has gone 8-2-3 in games in which it has scored first.
